While I too wish it was less of a scrapbook and more of a history, I still find the book compelling. It helps that I bought my first bow from Harold, as well as several others. I still have an old red glass 64" recurve (lightweight target) bow from the 60s, as well as one called the "spark" that was made for my brother. At the time he was pretty young, so Mr Groves split one of his existing bows lengthwise and reground it to end up with 2 smaller, very lightweight bows. (17# @ 28") Very cool. My dad still has a 56" 2 piece takedown hunting bow, as well as a mag II with several limb sets. Harold taught me to shoot 3 fingers under, and I spent hours at his little place on Veranda with my best friend (who also owns several groves bows)Even if its not a flowing historical reference, i'm still fascinated.

great book!
This is a daughter's look back at Groves archery in the 1950's and 60's in the form of News releases, interviews and remembrances. Yes, it is a scrapbook, but in some ways this makes it even more compelling as an historical document, ---allows it to more accurately capture the mood and tone of an earlier time in the sport. It is not a definitive history, but there are many historical accounts on the internet if that is what you want. Having shot at their range in the 1960's (and 80's), and talked with Groves on several occasions growing up in Albuquerque, brought back many pleasant memories.
I really looked forward to this book. I have tried to learn as much as I can from on-line sources and thought that this book would have a detail account of his history, his bows and maybe information from his old catalogs. I had a Groves Bow which was a wreck when I bought it. The seller said he tried to restore it but he didn't know what he was doing. All he could tell me was "it is a groves Dyna-stress spitfire two piece take down. About 40 pounds" There was no decals or anything. I hope to find out a few things about my bow and other Groves, I was shocked to open the book to find page after page after page of newspaper clippings, old Ads, and Magazine articles. It looks like a scrap book rather than a book. What really got me mad was the section form internet forums. These were simply cut and pasted from most of the posts which I already know about. The book is 374 pages of which 30 are written by the author, the rest is old photos, clipping etc... If you are looking for a scrap book and memorabilia this book is for you. However if you want a well researched and organized history of Groves Archery you will need to wait or write the book based on all the scraps of information strewn from these 374 pages. very very disappointed
